Teaching Assistantships form the primary source of financial aid for graduate students, with stipends starting at $11,700 for masters students and starting in the range $14,500-$18,000 for Ph.D. students per academic year. Various scholarship programs can add $1,500-$4,000 as a supplement to a teaching assistantship stipend. Such scholarship supplements are awarded on a competitive basis. Outstanding applicants are eligible to be considered for the TIAA-CREF Doctoral Fellowship, which carries a first-year stipend of $25,000. Summer support in the form of teaching or grading/tutoring is available on a competitive basis with stipends in the range $1,800-$2200.
