Charlotte Philatelic Society

The 90 cent issue of 1869.
The Charlotte Philatelic Society was chartered in 1965 to enhance and
stimulate the hobby of stamp collecting for the Charlotte area. The club is affiliated with
the American Philatelic Society. The club sponsors each year in late July a
dealer bourse and exhibition called Charpex which started the same year the
club was chartered. Early presidents were Herman Bauman, Justine Schrapper,
Ferenc Sajgo and Charles Yates. The club has 50 members, as of May 2006. All
stamp collectors are welcome to attend the meetings. Click here to find a history
of the club.
Each year the club
sponsors an Exhibition, CHARPEX.
Old Charpex Documents
The earliest records we have of Charpex documents are from 1975. The 1975
Charpex was held at the Carolina Trade Mart. The first document is the cover of the program. The second is a letter
of greetings from President Ferenc Sajgo. Next is an invitation
to the Awards Banquet at Swain’s Charcoal Steakhouse. You can see the program at this link. The historian was our beloved
friend Herman Baumann, whose letter you can find here.
The judges1 and judges2 for
the event were Bernard Hennig of Chicago, James Harris of Wilmington,
Jesse Johnson of Norfolk, VA. And John Foxworth, Jr. of Charlotte. Finally, there
is a letter of welcome from our supported Mayor John Belk.
