Welcome to Mathematics and Statistics at UNC-Charlotte |
|
Mathematics and Statistics are fields that endeavor to define the world accurately in many different ways. The fields of study range from a B.S. or B.A. in Mathematics, an M.A. in Applied Statistics, or a Doctorate in Applied Mathematics. Our department has the one of the largest and most diverse staff on hand (over 60 faculty and staff) to help students achieve a degree in higher education.
Students that finish the Undergraduate Program in the math and statistics department come out ready with mathematical experience and knowledge to apply in many fields of engineering, understanding the growth of technology in most aspects of today’s society, a profound and extensive understanding of the nature of mathematics, including the ability to reason in a variety of ways. Introductory courses include matrices and linear algebra, calculus, and differential equations that can lead to a B.A. or B.S. in Mathematics/Statistics. There is also an Honors Undergraduate Program for students that are striving for a more challenging path that will provide a richer understanding of the nature of math.
The Graduate Program include degrees in Doctorate in Applied Mathematics; M.A. in Mathematics Education; M.S. in General Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Applied Statistics, and Mathematical Finance (a joint degree with the College of Business). There is also a strong area of research within our Graduate Program concentrated in the areas of economics, engineering, physics, and the social sciences. |
